DEFENSOR
Function: AUTOBOT DEFENCE SOLDIER

“My Honour is Loyalty.”

The Autobot Secret Police had always been a force of terror across Cybertron, but it was the creation of the Protectobot sub-division that made the terrifying, nightmarish force they are today. The successor to the Protectrons, once led by Streetwise, the Protectobots are soldiers utterly devoted and loyal to Optimus Prime and his cause – the model of the ideal Autobot soldier. Following ‘The Night of the Long Servos’ that wiped out the Protectrons leaving only their leader Streetwise alive, the Protectobots became the primary elite force within the Secret Police, led by Hot Spot. The team have been part of the almost every major internal attack on Decepticon sympathisers living within Autobot-controlled territories.

Following the mental collapse of the Autobot combiner Computron during his failed experiment with Grimlock, Hot Spot made the case for the Protectobots undergoing the Combiner process in order to better serve Optimus and the Autobot cause. Optimus, in a moment of rare calmness, agreed to the request in no doubt over the opportunity of having a gestalt soldier with utter devotion and loyalty to its leader. The process was a greater success than previously expected; the collective loyalty and belief in the Autobot cause and Optimus himself meant that the Protectobot combiner held greater cognitive abilities comparatively than other Autobot combiners.

Taking the name Defensor, in reference of his defence of the Autobots and Optimus, his appearance in an assault on Decepticon forces usually indicates it is of some ideological importance or a battle of such important that has forced Optimus’ hand in deploying his most fanatical unit.

WEAPONS/ABILITIES
Due to his increased size and the internal nature of most of the Protectobot’s individual weaponry, Defensor’s only ranged capability is limited to forearm cannons on each arm. In an effort to compensate this though, Defensor possesses heightened strength and agility enabling the combiner to overwhelm an opponent in close hand-to-hand combat. In addition to this, he is also fitted with a pulse-wave field generator – giving the Autobot combiner the ability to blast his enemies back two klicks whilst simultaneously scrambling and overloading their circuitry. Hot Spot and First Aid have begun to make inquiries into whether this ability could be channelled into a localised beam; further increasing Defensor’s ranged military capability.

WEAKNESSES
Whilst the Protectobots are united in their fanatical devotion to Optimus and the Autobot cause, there is internal conflict within the team that can affect Defensor’s mental processes. Streetwise believes that, as the former leader of the now-disgraced and non-existent Protectrons, he should be the leader of the Protectobots rather than Hot Spot. This internal egotistical conflict can appear in Defensor in the form of slowed down movement and in ability to make decisions quick enough in the heat of battle. Defensor’s devotion to the Autobots can also make it easy to distract if members of the Autobot leadership are put at risk or threatened, causing the combiner to fly into a rage and for the threatened Autobot to take priority over their mission.

HOT SPOT
The commander of the Protectobots is a perfect example of how the Autobot Revolution has changed the make-up of Cybertron and its leadership. A former energon farmer, Hot Spot rose to become one of the most feared and respected Autobots across Cybertron; his reorganising of the Secret Police and command of the Protectobots have, literally in some cases, altered the landscape of Cybertron. However, Hot Spot’s devotion to Optimus is second to the ideals preached in Autobot ideology. Though he prefers to organise strikes against Decepticon insurgents from his desk in Iacon, the Protectobot leader is content to move into the field to attack for the glory of the Autobot Empire and its leader.

STREETWISE
Leadership is something that comes from experience and ability, in Streetwise’s mind. That is why he believes that he would be a better leader than Hot Spot. Streetwise’s Protectrons were once the feared faction within the Autobots; striking out at those who argued against Optimus and his policies. It wasn’t until Optimus found more rapport with Hot Spot that the shift of balance began to alter. A carefully planned attack, organised by Hot Spot, wiped out the entire Protectron team, with the sole exception of Streetwise. Injured and begging for the chance to redeem himself and the memory of his team, Optimus appointed the fallen leader into the Protectobots, though to serve under the ‘bot that had planned for the destruction of everything Streetwise had built.

FIRST AID
Whilst many ‘bots fear being repaired by Ratchet due his experimental upgrades, it’s First Aid that is the greater terror amongst the medical ‘bots on Cybertron. Formerly a student under Wheeljack until his exile to Gygax and then studying under Ratchet, First Aid experiments on ‘bots to test their physical limits to better understand the pressure exerted on them so he would know how to create the perfect Autobot. Cold, clinical and calculating, First Aid has few friends outside of the Protectobots; even his former mentor Ratchet removes himself from his presence due to his strict, professional interest in medicine rather than his own twisted passion in the subject.

GROOVE
Groove has always been a soldier, well in his mind at least. Finding a message that resonated with him, Groove joined the Autobots during their early days and found that benefits fell to him once they’d assumed power. However, he still lacked the strength and size to fulfil his wishes to be a real soldier to fight for Optimus and the Autobots. His moment finally arrived when he was amongst those Autobots who volunteered to be aboard the Ark. This then failed when he was nearly off-lined by a human girl, no less. Eventually recovered, he was transported back to Cybertron and, under Hot Spot’s recommendation, subjected to First Aid’s experiments to attempt to create a better soldier worthy of the Autobots.

BLADES
Thought by some to be the real intellect and terror behind the Protectobots, Blades serves as Hot Spot’s right hand ‘bot and unofficial second in command. A capable soldier in almost every field, Blades has been part of every Protectobot and Secret Police mission in some capacity; whether it is the planning, organisational stage or carrying the task out. His cold, merciless mental state as led him to be referred as ‘The ‘Bot with the Iron Spark’ by even Optimus himself. Blades, though, is content to remain within the Protectobots without leading them – should the opportunity present itself, however…
A MTMTE-style bio I came up with for a SG Protectobot team in the Shattered Glass continuity. I'd imagined their colour scheme to be based on the G1 Combaticons; Hot Spot-Onslaught, Streetwise-Swindle, First Aid-Brawl, Groove-Blast Off, Blades-Vortex.

Let me know what you think of them

Pretty cool. I like the backstory and how its connected to the Nazi's of our own time.

The Combaticon color scheme is interesting and I've seen it used and or asked for on another site too. Not absolutely loving it, but at the same time, an interesting one. I have fake Protectorbot toys, from the G1 form, a number of them (because they were so cheap) are broken in spots, but it does make me wonder about altering their colors and changing them into SG Protectobots.

lol have you done the Stunticons?
